The Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) published a YouTube video just in time for Earth Day 2017. Narrated by the Department’s Recycling and Sustainability Manager, Lois Fegan, the video gives the viewer an insight into the many programs the DOC has that not only promote a healthier environment but also save the DOC tens of thousands of dollars annually. The DOC agricultural operation is the center of the video including the diverse composting operations that exist across the system, eliminating food waste from the waste stream and the costs that go along with it. Instead these waste products find their way back to the soil promoting even more growth for the farming operation.
The video also tells the story of the recycling operation and how much money this generates for other programs.
Not content to sit on their laurels the DOC has plans to continue to improve their energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint. To check out the video click here and learn how you too can lower your operational costs and improve the environment.
